About me

I'm an embedded software developer by day. I have over a decade of experience writing many varieties of software with the one common thread that it's nearly all been written to run specific tasks on specific computers living inside specific "things".

Sometimes this has meant writing assembly and C in everything from 8-bit micros to bootloader & kernel code on modern SoCs, along with wading through datasheets, schematics.

Other times this has meant writing React components to talk to Python microservice backends to control said hardware.

And a little bit of everything in between.

But the common threads here have been:

• It's software meant to sell a physical product more often than not.
• It's (mostly) software that's invisibile until it breaks
• It's largely proprietary.

This page is my attempt to try something different for a change.

About the name

The name of the site comes from the vim keybindings for navigating the cursor up (j) and down (k). My first choices of wq, wqa, xa were all too expensive. This seemed nice and easy to remember + type.

At the moment - not much.

What's to come?

Eventually? Maybe a blog. Maybe some games. Maybe roll-your-own IoT stuff. Maybe some AI experiments. Maybe some webapps to build upon the 3rd-party APIs of some of my favorite services. Maybe nothing more than this simple static page.
